JewFace Is Making A Movie!

We’re thrilled to announce that one of the short plays we developed in our 2023 Short Play Lab is being turned into a short film — and we are proud to be onboard as producers.

One of JewFace’s founding members, Lauren Schaffel, wrote last summer’s comedic short play CATALOGUE OF NOSES, and with help from JewFace member Emily Nash (and her production company Pink Tax), as well as JewFace co-founder Yvonne Cone, fundraising for this hilarious short film is officially underway with just under 30 days to go to raise $20,000.

See more about the film at conosesfilm.com.

A bit about this funny ‘lil film:

CATALOGUE OF NOSES is a dark musical comedy following Jewish teen actor, Emily, who faces off with her mother and Jewish plastic surgeon on the day of her rhinoplasty.

The story is set to original Fiddler on the Roof parody songs to further illustrate the sacrifices Jewish women make to assimilate.

It’s a sweet, hilarious piece that weaves Lauren’s real-life experience of having a nose job at 16 to fit as a young Hollywood actor, with some deep truths about the underlying antisemitism that still exists in Hollywood today (ie. Bradley Cooper’s fake nose to play Leonard Bernstein).

A message from Writer/Producer Lauren Schaffel:

Hi friends! We are currently crowdfunding on Seed&Spark, and would be honored if you would consider a donation to support your fellow JewFace members in bringing my short film to life. We’ve got LOTS of great perks for you to choose from (including links to the finished film, albums of parody songs, producer credits, and more).

I wrote this film to combat the harmful portrayal of Jews in media that still exists today — and the best antidote to hate is comedy.

This film has a good, hearty laugh at ridiculous American standards of beauty, and is not just about Jewish women, but about anyone who’s been told they need to change their appearance to feel worthy.

We believe that with your help, we could get this project in front of the viewers who need it most! To learn more about our film and the incredible team working on it, check out our INSTAGRAM PAGE HERE.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and the tips of our noses!
