Inspired by interviews with the history teacher who experienced the 2018 mass shooting at in Parkland, Florida., at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, this stirring new play, by award winning playwright Michelle Kholos Brooks (H*TLER’S TASTERS), follows the teacher as she returns to the school and her Holocaust studies class, asking “What if you could rewrite history?” In memory, she reunites with her students as they were – playful, funny, full of life’s potential, and courageous – real kids with bright futures.
ROOM 1214 asks important questions about where society’s priorities are. This play is a must see to move us to feel differently and not to normalize, to scream if we have to, to root out hate, and to make change. The ultimate answer may be love, but as Elie Wiesel said, it is indifference that must be fought.
ROOM 1214 offers the moving reminder that the best way to honor the past is to learn from it, keeping in mind the maxim – Never Forget!
